Gary Oldman was originally considered for casting, but he was replaced by Kevin Kline
Tale
It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a television documentary journalist whose work is built on exposing the wrongdoings of long-respected institutions. Crap!
At its core, this is a revenge story
Little did I know what an experience I was in for when I started watching this miniaturized AppleTV+ series starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline. Based on the novel of the same name by Renée Knight, Disclaimer was written for the screen and directed by Alfonso Cuarón.
Blanchett is fantastic here as always and Kline gives a solid performance as well
Blanchett plays Catherine, a journalist whose secrets from her past resurface in disturbing ways, forcing her to confront that past that turns her entire life upside down. This is a masterfully told story that takes us on a fascinating journey of discovery as the audience is shown (sometimes in vivid detail) the “events” of Catherine’s past.
Note: There are some pretty explicit depictions of sex/intimacy in several episodes
It was surprising to see Sacha Baron Cohen in a more serious role but he did it justice. Despite some minor criticisms, I highly recommend this series if you like character dramas with a little extra suspense/intrigue.
Video review coming soon
It’s not action-packed and it took about half an episode (about 30 minutes) before I was finally “hooked” on the story. But boy am I glad I stuck with it.
