The set was demolished right after filming wrapped
Tale
Follows troubled teenager Chan Lok-kwun as he accidentally enters the Walled City, discovers order amidst the chaos, and learns important life lessons along the way. A life-sized replica of Kowloon’s Walled City was built for filming, meant to be almost identical to the real thing.
That’s what I got
Followed by Jiu Lóng Chéng Zhài·Lóng Tóu. I was expecting great fight scenes, great scenery, some over-the-top acting, and a bit of fun.
The lead actor was very good
The beginning was a good introduction to the film and hooked me right away. The first half was actually better than I expected.
The second half, OH MY GOD, was a bizarre, nonsensical, over-the-top, non-stop fight fest
It was well paced and gave you a good understanding of the character and how he finally felt at home with a new family, without missing out on some action scenes. Plus, the setting was wonderfully dystopian and looked exactly how I imagined Kowloon would look.
Overall, absolutely worth watching
It certainly wasn’t “The Raid” standard, but it was entertaining nonetheless.
